Life Flight

Last year, Life Flight provided free, time-critical care to over 1,600 Kiwis. When someone suffers a stroke in Tairāwhiti Gisborne, when premature twins need specialist care in Auckland, or when a heart attack patient in Masterton needs emergency surgery – we’re their lifeline to survival.

Unfortunately, this number continues to grow. Every 4-6 hours someone, somewhere in New Zealand needs help from our Wellington-based Westpac Rescue Helicopter or Air Ambulance Fleet – flying intensive care wards with nationwide coverage. With Aotearoa New Zealand’s health system facing increasing demand and specialist services centralised in major centres, getting critically ill patients to the right care quickly can mean the difference between life and death.

Sadly, due to rising costs and increased demand, our Air Ambulance fleet is expensive to maintain – Life Flight faces a funding shortfall, relying on community donations to cover operating costs to keep these vital services running 24/7.
