Life Flight

Each week 28 people need time-critical aeromedical care. With your support, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and Air Ambulance Planes are there in their moment of need.

Plane Crew – Jack Anderson

Meet Jack

I have the pleasure of working two roles at Life Flight. I’m now fully trained as a Fixed-Wing Crewman on the Air Ambulance Planes and as Corporate Services Administrator. I joined the Life Flight team in April 2021.

Prior to this job I’ve had various occupations. I worked in the Hutt Valley doing COVID testing and most recently worked on the high seas on the Interislander ship, Kaiarahi. I also recently graduated from Victoria University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Cultural Anthropology and Development Studies.

I was initially drawn to this job because I strongly believe in the life saving work that Life Flight does, and the necessity for us to be able to keep providing care to those who desperately need it.

When asked, I’d have to say the best part of the job is returning someone home who has just had life-saving surgery to be with their whānau on their home soil. They often share that feeling, knowing they are on the way home.

There are definitely some hard aspects to the job. Sometimes, when a sick baby has just been born and needs to be flown to urgent medical care, it’s not safe to take their Mum too, because they have just given birth. It’s sad to separate the two, but we do it so they can enjoy more time together in the future.

Since being here at Life Flight, the main thing I noticed was the overwhelming support of our amazing donors. From volunteering to collect donations at our annual street appeal to running entire events for Life Flight. It’s truly amazing.

When I’m not at work I enjoy gardening, staying active with a range of hobbies and spending time with my family.

Everything we are able to do is thanks to our supporters, you make this all possible and your donations directly contribute to saving lives every day.
