Every single day when I wake up, I think, ‘I can walk!’. And I directly attribute that to what Life Flight does.
Each week 28 people need time-critical aeromedical care. With your support, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and Air Ambulance Planes are there in their moment of need.
Luce was on the ground, pinned down by the weight of her horse. Both sides of her pelvis were fractured and her spine was broken. Her horse and reared and fallen on her.
“If my femoral artery had been damaged, I had fifteen minutes, then it would be lights out,” says Luce.
Hospital was an hour away by road. Life Flight got her there in five minutes.
It wasn’t easy. Luce had been terrified of getting on the helicopter. She had a fear of flying, and her mum couldn’t go with her because they had a full crew.
But the one thing I remember thinking at the time is, this is remarkably calm, confident, and quiet. They were wheeling me down into the hospital and the paramedic was whistling and chatting along.
“It is a huge thing, especially at a young age, to put your life into the control of someone that you’ve never met before.
