Q&A with Grant Elliott

How did your journey from Black Cap to Life Flight unfold?
As a professional sportsman the end date is imminent. You’re always trying to work out what it is you like and don’t like about a job. I knew I enjoyed working with great people, making a difference, and having fun. My role as Partnership Manager allows me to do all three, making it the perfect fit for me. It’s such an amazing charity organization to be a part of and I am very fortunate to have found something I enjoy.

How do the experiences from your cricket career help in your role?
Sports teams are made up of so many different characters and personalities. It’s something I really enjoyed about the sport. Understanding our partners, getting to know them, and how they want to make a difference is something I am passionate about. I genuinely feel like they are part of our team and united by the common goal of saving lives.

What do you do when you’re not at work?
Sport is still big in my life. My boys enjoy cricket, rugby and basketball so most weekends I will be watching them play or hitting a golf ball with our partners.

What’s it like working with the life-saving crews?
We all work as a team at Life Flight, and I see the crews as our teams’ athletes. There are different skills throughout the organisation but ultimately, we are all working towards saving lives. There is no doubt more stress involved in what our crews deal with, and I respect them greatly for it.

Is there anything you would like to share with our regular donors?
I am just so thankful to everyone that gives regularly and to all the partners and sponsors I deal with. Seeing the lengths our community goes to make a difference is so motivating.
