We are sincerely grateful to the Trlin family for sharing their story in memory of Andrew.
When approached to become a Life Flight Red Angel supporter, I did not hesitate to say ‘yes’.
On a wintery July evening, Life Flight’s Westpac Rescue Helicopter landed at our Kapiti property.
My late husband was suffering from a brain tumour and had fallen during a seizure, splitting his head open. He was bleeding profusely and in need of urgent medical attention.
He was stabilised by the team onsite and, despite the weather conditions, was airlifted quickly to Wellington Hospital.
Although we did not know yet, Life Flight would play an important role in making my husband’s last month's memorable.
In late August, our eldest daughter, Natasha, gave birth to twins – Ollie and Lexi.
Within a week they were seriously ill with an infection and needed the Air Ambulance Plane for an urgent hospital transfer. Our grandson was rushed to intensive care in critical condition. Against all odds both babies survived and are thriving.
As a family, we are mindful that without this service we would have been robbed of not only our grandchildren, but the extra months we had with our loved husband, father and grandfather. Thank you, Life Flight supporters, for making this possible.
Your gifts made these precious memories of ‘Dida’ with his new grandchildren possible.
Despite their initial very rocky start, Natasha says the twins are now thriving.
Ollie has been assessed as having a heart function that is near normal, which is really rather incredible after what he's been through. The long term outlook for him at this stage is really positive. He is full of energy and has a cheeky curious nature.
Lexi is a bubbly very outgoing, very social little girl who thrives on learning and singing. We wouldn't be where we are today without the help of Life Flight.
