We are delighted to be the beneficiaries of this wonderful community-led art auction.
Earlier this year, Wairarapa artist Zelda Bruce brought many community members together to create an art piece inspired by Jackson Pollock. Local MP Kieran McAnulty was one of many who took turns in leaving their mark on the canvas.
This one-of-a-kind artwork is now up for auction, with 100%of the proceeds going to Life Flight. Zelda Bruce was herself airlifted by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter in 2008 after a petrol explosion at her home burned her severely. Recalling the accident, she said:
If it wasn't for the helicopter that got me to the medical attention I needed, I don't know if I would have survived.
- Zelda Bruce, Artist
Today, she generously supports and raises awareness of her rescuers, Life Flight.
Jackson Pollock’s action paintings revolutionized the art world in the 1950s. His method of dripping paint onto a canvas was the inspiration for this community art piece as the many colours reflect the diversity of the community and New Zealand as a whole.
As the 65th anniversary of the death of Pollock is 11 August, Bruce felt it was an appropriate time to put this artwork up for auction. Please help support Life Flight by bidding on this unique artwork. 100% of the proceeds will support their life-saving mission.
