Shirley’s family has needed Life Flight twice and she has since sought to help us in any way she can.
What’s been your favourite part about being Regional Coordinator for the Street Appeal?
It’s lovely to meet other patients. I like to give them the time because they’ve got a story to tell. I also like to give them a hug and say we’re glad to have you with us still. And it’s through this organisation that we can do for others as we did for you.
What would you say to our crew?
Where would we be without people like them? I just want to say thank you time and time again.
Have you always helped others?
I’ve always donated to worthwhile causes. I love giving, I love helping. I can’t give monetary wise but I can give my time. I can give my love.
Do you have a special memory from when your family was helped by Life Flight?
After my husband Alan was flown in the chopper, the Life Flight team who helped him stopped for a visit next time they were at the hospital.
They actually took the time to come and say gidday to him. For Alan that meant the world.
Shirley has decided it’s time to step down as the Kapiti Coordinator, but she confirms you’ll still see her shaking a bucket.
Thank you, Shirley, for being an important part of the Life Flight team!
