Westpac Rescue Helicopter attends Fatal car crash in South Wairarapa

The Wellington based Westpac Rescue Helicopter responded to a one vehicle accident near Ngawi late this afternoon.
The accident occured on Cape Palliser Road at the bridge which crosses the Pararaki Stream, aproximately 9km north of Ngawi.
The car, which was heading towards Ngawi struck a concrete structure on the bridge.
As far as we are aware no other vehicles were involved and there were no other people in the car with her.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter, with two Wellington Free Ambulance paramedics onboard arrived at the scene at about 4:15 this afternoon. The local fire brigade was already on the scene, working to free the driver who was trapped in her car. A Wairarapa ambulance sevice crew and police arrived shortly after.
"Despite all of our best efforts we were unable to save the woman" says Logan Taylor, Westpac Rescue Helicopter crewman. "Treatment started when she was in the car and once she was freed from her car the ambulance crews attempted to resusciate her for over an hour but to no avail".
We understand the woman was a 72 year old Featherston resident.
