Wellington Westpac Rescue Helicopter transports Patient from Car crash near Blenheim

The Wellington Based Westpac Rescue Helicopter was call this evening at 9:30pm 19th Sept to a Blenheim man who had driven off the road at high speed and hit a tree. No other vehicle was involved or occupants in the vehicle.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter responded with Two Wellington Free Paramedics onboard and was able to land in a paddock near the crash scene.

The patient was still trapped in the vehicle when the helicopter was called. The Fire Service had extricated the driver from the vehicle and was being attend to by St Johns ambulance staff in the ambulance when the helicopter arrived.

On arrival the patient was assessed by the Wellington Free Paramedics before being transferred to the helicopter.

The patient was transported to Wellington Hospital Emergency department where is being treated for a laceration to his head and possible back and neck injuries
