Wellington Westpac Rescue Helicopter transport one serious patient from van versus logging truck in the Wairarapa

The Wellington Based Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called today 07/08/09 at just after 2pm to an accident involving a van and a logging truck near Riversdale

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter with two Wellington Free Paramedic onboard responded to the scene. The Wairarapa ambulance service were already on scene when the helicopter arrived and were busy treating all five of the patients. They had stabilised the most serious patient and had prepared him for transport in the helicopter.
The Westpac Helicopter had to land in a paddock several kms from the scene and the patient was initially transported by road ambulance to the near by helicopter

The patient who was a 26yr old male from Masterton had chest, leg and arm injuries, was flown back to Wellington Hospital Emergency Department where he is being assessed and treated for his injuries. He is currently stable but in a serious condition.

The other patients were transported by the Wairarapa Ambulance to Masterton Hospital.
