Wellington Based Westpac Rescue Helicopter does Two Rescues

The Wellington Based Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called this afternoon the 12 Nov 10 at 3pm to a Mountain Biker who had fallen off his bike and injured his head. The patient was a 40yr old male from Christchurch.
The Helicopter responded to Furneaux Lodge with a Wellington Free Ambulance on Board.
The Helicopter was able to land in the grounds of Furneaux Lodge and the Paramedic and crew were able to walk to the Patients location.
The Mountain Biker had been riding down a trail and hit his head on branch which he didn't see. He was suffering from neck and head pain. The patient was carried to the Helicopter on a stretcher.
He was then flown to Blenheim hospital where he is being treated for his injuries.
Second mission.
On the return flight to Wellington the Helicopter was diverted by the Police Communications Centre to assist with a person seen on Barrett's Reef in the Entrance to Wellington Harbour.
The stranded diver had been diving around the reef and when he surfaced his kayak had blown away. He then climb onto the reef and was waving his paddle when a member of the public spotted him and advised the police. He had been on the reef for approxamittly one hour before he was rescued.
The diver was winched into the helicopter and then flown to the Westpac rescue base. He did not suffer any injuries and didn't require and medical attention.
