The Wellington-based Westpac Rescue Helicopter transported a 68 year old Waikanae man to hospital this afternoon suffering from chest pain.

The helicopter, with a Wellington Free Ambulance paramedic onboard was called to Waikanae at about 4.00pm today. The helicopter landed at Waikanae Park to uplift the patient, who was being treated by a Wellington Free Ambulance crew.

"As we understand it the man had not long finished playing golf this afternoon, when he began to feel pain in his chest and called an ambulance" says Colin Larsen, Westpac Rescue Helicopter crewman.

The man was transported by helicopter to Wellington Hospital, where he is currently being further assessed and treated.
