Two members of same family injured in separate accidents
15/11/2008
The Wellington Westpac Rescue Helicopter responded to two separate incidents in the Wairarapa involving members of the same family earlier tonight.
In the first incident two men were injured when their car left the road and went down a bank at the intersection of Homebush Rd and Riversdale Rd, near Riversdale Beach, shortly after 7pm.
The step father of one of the injured men was involved in a separate accident when his quad bike hit a rock while he was trying to ride to his son's accident.
The Wairarapa Ambulance Service, Fire Service and Police attended both incidents as did the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, with a Wellington Free Ambulance paramedic onboard.
In the end, the helicopter transported a 25 year old Masterton man, who was the driver of the car involved in the first accident, to Wellington Hospital. The man had a fractured femur in one leg and had been trapped in his vehicle for over an hour while the fire service worked to free him.
The man's step father, a 50 year old Palmerston North man, was transported to Masterton Hospital by road ambulance, suffering from leg and arm injuries.
We believe that the passenger in the car was also transported by road ambulance to Masterton Hospital.
The two family members were enjoying a family weekend at Riversdale Beach prior to their accidents.
