Ryan's Story
Dear Life Flight Trust,
Please find enclosed a cheque for One Thousand Dollars. We have great pleasure giving this to such a valuable cause.
There is a story behind why and how these funds were raised and given. Part way through her pregnancy Victoria wasn't feeling 100% and after a quick visit to her friendly mid-wife we were sent to Palmerston North Hospital for further checks. After much investigation she was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia and it was decided an emergency caesarean birth 13 weeks early was the only option. A flight to Auckland was essential because we didn't have a high enough level of care in our region and Wellington Hospital was full.
Ryan our son was born in Auckland weighing only 710 grams (a full term baby usually weighs around 3.5kgs). Ryan underwent three operations within his first four months of being born and utilised the Life Flight plane to and from Auckland, Wellington and Palmerston North.

Ryan had a lot of troubles but pulled through every one of them with your help. Initially we could only feed him 1ml of milk twice a day but it's been fantastic to see him grow into a healthy young lad. He's now three years old and doing great. We've just signed him up for athletics.
Our second child Blake was closely monitored and arrived safe and sound. He is much loved by all - especially his big brother Ryan.
A year after Ryan's birth we came up with a plan to give back to your charity. We've been involved in the trail riding scene for years and designed a fundraising event with a difference. It was two days of full-on riding over 54 farms, covering 150 km per day. It's the least we could do after everything Life Flight has done for us. We'd like to encourage other friends of the charity to think outside the square and come up with fun fundraising events to help save lives.

Every year Life Flight flies around 200 premature babies to the specialist care they urgently need. We rely on approximately $2,500 from the community for every mission we fly. That means your donations are vital to ensure these little ones can get to the emergency care they urgently require.
