Quad bike rider seriously injured in Wairarapa

The Wellington based Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to a serious quad bike accident in the Wairarapa early this afternoon.
The helicopter, with a Wellington Free Paramedic onboard responded to the scene near Riversdale Beach at about 12:30pm.
Wairarapa Ambulance staff were on the scene prior to the helicopter arriving and stabilised the 21 year old Wellington man who was suffering from major head and chest injuries.
As we understand it the man's quad bike flipped upside down on the road and no other vehicles were involved in the incident.
The patient was then flown to the Wellington Hospital Emergency Department at about 2:10 pm and he has since been transferred to the ICU unit and is said to be in a very serious condition.
