Pilots
Safety is critical to Life Flight’s work. It is our pilots who ultimately are responsible for deciding whether or not a flight can be flown safely. They are experts in weather conditions.
Our aviation partners supply pilots.
Pilot Profile: Mike Hall
“I’m just one part of a team but when you go home knowing you’ve made a real difference to someone’s chances of survival, it’s a pretty good feeling.”Mike was introduced to flying at age 15 through the Southland Aero Club in Invercargill. Flying is an expensive hobby for any 15-year-old, so Mike worked part time to fund his lessons, and soon left school to pursue his dream career.
Mike thinks the best part of working in this industry is that it applies flying skills in a way that helps people in trouble. He says the variety of the job also keeps it challenging: “You could be doing any number of things – from an inter-hospital transfer to an ambulance mission to search and rescue”.
