A Life Flight Trust team has this morning transported a seriously ill boy from a car accident north of Waikanae.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter, with two Wellington Free Ambulance paramedics onboard, was called to SH 1 near Te Horo at approximately 11:25 am today.

On arrival at the scene multiple patients were being treated by Fire Service, St John Ambulance and Wellington Free Ambulance personnel. A 10 year old Waikanae boy, who was a rear seat passenger in one of the vehicles involved, was stabilized at the scene and then flown to Wellington Hospital Emergency Department by helicopter with head injuries.

He is currently being assessed further by Emergency Department and surgical staff.
