At approximately 4:15 pm this afternoon the Life Flight Trust responded to a farmer who had had an accident near Te Wharau in the Wairarapa.

Life Flight responded with a Wellington Free Paramedic on board the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

The patient, a 62 year old man, had fallen and dislocated his hip at about 11am this morning. It had taken him all day to raise the alarm by yelling out for help. "It was very lucky that he was found when he was" said helicopter crewman Colin Larsen. "Although it had been a fine day he was quite cold and the temperature was dropping rapidly with night setting in".

The patient was transported from where he fell to the helicopter by quad bike and trailer, after being located by neighbors and family who heard his cries for help.

He was given pain relief and taken to Masterton Hospital Emergency Department, where he is being further assessed and treated for his hip injury.
