Injured mountain biker winched from hills above Wainuiomata

The Wellington-based Westpac Rescue Helicopter has transported a 17 year old Lower Hutt man to hospital this evening after he fell from his mountain bike on a track in the hills above Wainuiomata.

The helicopter, with a Wellington Free Ambulance paramedic onboard, was called at approximately 6pm this evening. Due to the terrain the Paramedic was winched down to assess the injured man. The Paramedic and patient were then winched back into the helicopter and flown to Wellington Hospital.

The injured man is currently in Wellington Hospital Emergency Department, where he is being assessed and treated for injuries to his right arm.
