Injured Motorcyclist Flown to Wellington Hospital from Rimutaka Hill
7/11/2010 1505
The Wellington based Westpac Rescue Helicopter flew an injured motorcyclist from the Rimutaka Hill Road early this afternoon.
The helicopter, with a Wellington Free Ambulance paramedic onboard, was called to the accident scene a few minutes before 12 noon.
The accident occurred on the Wellington side of the Rimutaka Summit.
On our arrival a Wellington Free Ambulance crew were treating a 20 year old Wainuiomata man who had hit and gone under the road barrier alongside the road.
The helicopter was able to land in a lay-by near the accident scene. This allowed road traffic to continue flowing past the helicopter landing site.
The man was transported to the helicopter landing zone and then flown to the Wellington Hospital Emergency Department aboard the helicopter.
He is currently being treated and assessed for multiple non life threatening injuries.
