Hunter spends 11 hours waiting for help after quad bike rolls

The Wellington based Westpac Rescue Helicopter transported an injured hunter from the Wairarapa last night after his four wheel bike rolled earlier in the day.
The 53 year old Carterton man was returning from a pig hunt when his four wheel bike rolled over on a track about three kilometres from the nearest house in Ruakokoputuna, south of Martinborough.
"The dead pig was tied to the front of the bike and it appears the bike became unbalanced and rolled over on an uneven part of the track" says Life Flight crewman Dave Greenberg. "The man said he believes the accident occurred around 10am and that he was initially trapped under the bike but was able to crawl out from under it on his own".
The man was too badly injured to get himself to help and was found by a local farmer around 9pm.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter, with two Wellington Free Ambulance paramedics onboard, responded to the accident about 9:45pm. On our arrival a local Martinborough ambulance crew had just arrived on scene and were treating the man who was slightly dehydrated and suffering from what appears to be a severely broken leg.
The man was transported to the Wellington Hospital Emergency Department where he is being assessed and treated.
