Forestry worker felled by tree

Fri 25/02/2011 3:53 p.m.

The Wellington-based Westpac Rescue Helicopter has transported a forestry worker to hospital this morning after he was struck by a falling tree.

The helicopter, with a Wellington Free Ambulance paramedic onboard, was called to Tinui Valley, Wairarapa, just after 10.00am this morning.

On our arrival we were taken by 4WD vehicle to the patient, a 34 year old Masterton man.

"His co-workers had done an excellent job in stabilizing and comforting their colleague and providing a landing area for the helicopter" said crewman Colin Larsen.

The worker had suffered a fractured leg in the accident and was given pain relief before being winched into the helicopter and then transported to Palmerston North Hospital Emergency Department, where he is being further assessed and treated for his injuries.
